Either asexuality is queer or it isn’t. Pick one. You don’t get to divide us up according to our romantic orientations. You take us all or you take none of us.

frankly, the claim that asexuality is a sexual orientation in the same way that hetero-, homo-, bi-, etc. sexualities are is, well. illogical.

the latter describe direction of attraction. heterosexual = attracted toward the “opposite” gender. homosexual = attracted toward the same gender. and so on and so forth all through the list.

asexuality doesn’t describe this, if the claim that asexual people are still capable of romantic attraction is to be believed. I suppose you could argue that asexual just means that the attraction doesn’t go anywhere, but it makes more sense to conceptualize it as nonexistent or not very strong. and so with this idea in mind, asexuality describes the degree or type of attraction, in the same way that “sexual” would describe the degree or type of attraction of people who aren’t asexual.

it’s all in the name, really. sexual orientation is the orientation of someone’s sexual attraction in relation to them. “homosexual” broken down just means “same sex.” same thing for romantic orientation, I suppose, although you all have messed with the suffixes in illogical ways that break down when you start using words like “homoromantic.”

so asexuality is not on par with, say, homosexuality. it’s on par with sexuality. and in that sense, yes, you can be divided, just as so-called “sexual” people are divided between straight and queer.
