Sincerity Olympics

I wasn’t going to comment on this because it’s not my art, it’s not my point being made.  But I have been getting messages because of this and especially this, and well, there’s my name right there, though I never was ‘in’ on it.  It’s my name.  So.  I hear you.

It sucks to eat shit because you didn’t get a satirical joke, it sucks even more to be told to eat shit because you were hurt by one.  John is my friend and I see his satire, I understand it, I appreciate it.  But I hear you as well, and I care about you, and as much as I admire satire, I am not detached enough to stay aloof or think it doesn’t matter when people say they’re hurt.  It’s ok, your feelings matter, no one’s feelings don’t.  But be good to each other out there, people are always able to be pretty horrible on both sides of an argument, no matter what it is.

Sometimes I think I’m pretty cool and jaded, but then I want to talk about feelings.  You know? Just feelin’ those feelin’s

satire does not simply repeat the prevailing opinion of the times. satire takes these things and makes them absurd.

this is not what happened. his “satire,” if it is indeed satire, failed. and though it is nice to hear our feelings matter, it feels somewhat like a hollow statement when it is immediately preceded by the tired satire excuse and immediately followed by an admonition to be nice.
